Died: 15 Dec 2022

CRISPIN, Helen Iris - passed away on December 15, 2022, in Toronto at age 87. Helen is survived by her daughter, Tamara; her three grandchildren, Willem (Samantha), Ariana, and Genevieve (Connor); as well as her nephew and nieces, Brian, Jane, and Karen (Jim), and their children; and is predeceased by her son, Mark. Helen will be remembered as an adventurous character with an inquiring mind, an active imagination, and a steadfast will. She honed her quick (and sharp) wit through reading any and every book she could get her hands on and striking up conversations with everyone she met on her adventures, both at home in Ontario and on her travels across five continents. Helen married Harry Clyde Wilson while they were both serving in the Royal Canadian Navy and had two children with him. While working and raising their children, Helen received her BA from the University of Toronto. Helen spent a decades-long career teaching English, History, Law, Commerce, and Accounting at McLaughlin Collegiate in Oshawa, while volunteering on Oshawa's Symphony and Library Boards. Following her retirement from the Durham Region Board of Education, Helen taught English in the newly-forming Czech Republic, while immersing herself in Czech culture. Back in Ontario, Helen embraced her new role as a grandmother, sharing her interests in the arts and the world with her three grandchildren. Helen also continued to serve the community as a volunteer for the Harbourfront Centre and the Canadian Opera Company, and was recognized with awards for her service and dedication. Helen will be remembered for her intellect, humour, love, and zest for life. A celebration of Helen's life will be held in Toronto in July.
