Died: 16 Jan 2023

 

LAVIOLETTE, Donald Robert  - age 88 years of Lower Sackville passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, peacefully at home with his loving family by his side.

 

Born in in Halifax, NS on September 30, 1934; he was a son of the late William and Ethel (MacAloney) Laviolette.

 

Don served with the Royal Canadian Navy as a Sonarman for 25 years and went on to instruct at Stadacona and won an award for a book he wrote named Jezebal.

 

Don loved having his family and friends close by and was always welcoming to everyone and was willing to help a hand to anyone in need.
He enjoyed building things especially model planes. Don was an avid gardener, cook, baker and jack of all trades. His daily evenings would end with him sitting listening to his favorite music and eating his favorite treats.

 

He took special pride in being the “Go To” guy in the family and neighborhood. Many people would go to him for advice or even just a hug.

 

Don and Sheila would vacation with their children to Sun Valley Beach many summers where he would take days to set up the treasure hunt for all the children in the campground which they loved to take part in.

 

Left with many cherished memories are his children Deanna, Donnie (Marina), Dennis, Dwayne (Angela) and Dion (Serena); grandchildren Nicholas (Chastity), Matthew (Tisha), Amber (Daniel), Joseph (Lisa), Joel (Jess), Nicole (Andrew), Dion Jr., Jacob and Logan; great grandchildren Emma, Landon, Colton, Breah, Myah, Brody, Braxton, Brooklyn, Easton, Alexandra, Jackson, Joe, Joshua, Gordon and Jesse; sisters Joan O’Quinn and Virginia Mombourquette and brothers Laurie (Glenda) and Gary (Flora).

 

Predeceased by his devoted wife Sheila in 2012; granddaughter Jessica Dawn in 1987; sisters Madeline, Geraldine and Ducky; brother Dennis.

 

Special thanks to all the workers from Northwood who cared for dad as their own and made him smile at every visit.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm in the Atlantic Funeral Home (125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville).

 

The funeral mass will take place from St. John Vianney Church (4 Beaver Bank Road, Lower Sackville) on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:30am.

 

A time of fellowship & refreshments will be held at the Sackville Kinsman Club, starting at 6pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023. All are welcome to come and share memories of Don with his family.

 

Interment will be in Oakridge Memorial Gardens on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 10am. (Atlantic Funeral Homes)
