FISHER, Gordon Russel - Age 82, passed on away peacefully on January 15, 2023 at the Rosedale Home for Special Care in New Germany. He was born on March 25, 1940, the son of the late Siebert and Elsie (Chell) Fisher, and grew up in large family with 8 siblings in Pictou County. He was born again in September 1955. He loved boats and the ocean, and spent two years serving in the Canadian Navy.

 

Following that he spent a year in Guatemala on a mission trip, to help with rebuilding after the earthquake, in 1976. This trip left a lasting impression. A welder by trade, he spent the remainder of his working life at various companies. On July 21, 1977, he married Ruth Aulenback (Falkland Ridge). Gordon and Ruth had one daughter Angela, and were blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Alexander, William and Abigail (Toronto, Ontario). He loved being a grandfather and looked forward to visiting them and their annual summer visits.

 

Gordon is survived by his wife Ruth; daughter, Angela (Jeff) Watson; and grandchildren, Alexander, William and Abigail. Siblings Pauline Chapman, Greta Hatt and Betty Fisher. He was predeceased by siblings Dorthy Fisher, Doris Cummings, Elsie Freeman, Harold Fisher and Chelbert Fisher.

 

The family would like to thank the Rosedale staff for the wonderful care they provided Gordon during his last three years while he resided there.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater. A public viewing will be held at 12:30 p.m., and the Funeral Service will begin at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, with David Hunt officiating the funeral. A public interment will be held immediately following the service in Falkland Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Falkland Ridge, with John Meeken officiating the committal. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, or the Rosedale Home for Special Care. (Sweeny's Funeral Home)
