Douglas Earl McLeod

McLEOD, Douglas Earl - Age 94 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home on December 14th, 2013, with his family at his side.

 

Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late John and Minnie (Morash) McLeod.

 

Doug grew up in Woodside. He joined the navy in his late teens and served in the Second World War.

 

He returned home after the war and built his home in Westphal where he resided until his death.

 

He worked at the Halifax Dockyards as a crane operator until he retired in 1979.

 

He enjoyed having a beer at the Legion with his friends.

 

In his later years, he would visit his dear friend Marie each morning for coffee.

 

Doug had a great love for animals. There were always dogs in the house and no bird that flew in his yard ever went hungry.

 

Doug is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Rawding, and Sandra McLeod; sons, Allan (Sheila) McLeod, Murray (Carol) McLeod, Terry (Sharon) McLeod; sister, Theresa Taylor; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

He was predeceased by wives, Ann McLeod, Josephine "Babe" (Dunn) McLeod, and Ellen (Cross) McLeod; son, Gary McLeod. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 21st from 12-2 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth.

 

Following visitation, the funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Pat Malin officiating.


Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marley's Hope. (The Halifax Chronicle-Herald 20 Dec 2013)
