KITCHEN, Herbert Bruce - Peacefully, at Sunnybrook Veteran's Long Term Care on Thursday, December 29, 2022. Predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 75 years, Norma nee Elsworthy and son, Kerry and half-brother Jack. Much loved by his family; Paul (Shirley), Kevin (Karen) and nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Bruce was born on November 7, 1925 in Milton. He left high school to work to support his family. Bruce joined the Navy when he was eighteen and sailed on the HMCS KAMSACK and HMCS BUCKINGHAM aka the Galloping Pig, during WWII. Bruce and Norma married in in 1945 before the war ended and built their own home on Lydia Avenue soon after. Bruce worked at PL Robertson's for over 40 years. He played the bagpipes with the Lorne Scot's Pipe Band traveling to Scotland in 1960 to play in the Edinburgh Tattoo. He piped with the band for many a parade. Bruce built the family cottage on Lake Simcoe where much fun and laughter was had with the growing family and cottage friends. Bruce and Norma were both avid curlers and founding members of the Milton Curling Club. We would like to thank all those who helped to make his final years comfortable; LHINS, Bayshore Healthcare, Veteran's Affairs Canada and all at Sunnybrook for their care and support. Funeral will take place on Friday January 6, 2023 at J. Scott Early Funeral Home, 21 James St., Milton (905) 878-2669 at 11:00am. Please check website for information. Visitation at 10:00 am.
