George was the son of Medley Lamont Cookson and Barbara Nemmo (née Osborne) Beaman.

 


 

Citation for award of the DSM:

 

BEAMAN, George Lamont Osborne, Stoker First Class, A2445, Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), HMS JERVIS BAY - Awarded as per London Gazette of 11 March 1941

 

"For courage and devotion to duty when HMS Jervis Bay defending a large convoy was sunk by a powerful German warship."

HMS JERVIS BAY - George Beaman survived the sinking of HMS JERVIS BAY on 05 Nov 1940. The Armed Merchant Cruiser JERVIS BAY was sunk in action against the German pocket-battleship ADMIRAL SCHEER.
