John was from Toronto.
John's cousin, Hugh Armstrong, died when HMCS ST CROIX was sunk. His cousin, Robert Armstrong, (Hugh's brother), also served in the Navy during the Second World War.
Ships served in: HMS JERVIS BAY - Survived the sinking of HMS JERVIS BAY on 05 Nov 1940. The Armed Merchant Cruiser JERVIS BAY was sunk in action against the German pocket-battleship ADMIRAL SCHEER.
