In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
O'HARA, Pearl Marie (née PURA) - Marie was born to Wasyl & Katarzyna Pura on May 3, 1935 in Rapid View, Saskatchewan – arriving 16 and 14 years after her siblings, Olga and Walter.
Marie had an adventurous spirit. In 1954, she visited Walter in Vancouver before trying nursing school in Edmonton, and later joining the Navy in Halifax.
Marie enjoyed Navy life, marrying Walter O’Hara in 1958. They welcomed children Sharon in 1964 and Robert in 1965.
In 1968, Walter took a job in Vancouver, so Marie drove alone with her toddlers all the way across Canada to start their new life in the West. They welcomed another daughter, Katherine, in 1975.
Settling in Surrey, Marie’s life revolved around family, church and community. An active parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, she was leader or participant in Bible studies, prayer groups, the Charismatic Renewal, the CWL and Eucharistic Ministry.
Marie was also a second-mom to many. Her devotion to the Lord was absolute, and her steadfast faith inspired many souls to open their hearts to Christ.
Marie was also a proud Aunt of Wes, Ed, Dale, Elaine, Denise and Rosemary and adoring Grandmother of Dakota, Justine, Graham, Sheldon, Mitch, Reid, Charlotte and Cynthia.
Walter passed away in 1994 but Marie continued to travel, visiting family and making pilgrimages to the Holy Land, Medjugoria, Turkey, Europe and Mexico.
Her later years were spent happily at the Imperial Place in Surrey. She kept busy with church events, card games, book clubs, and choir practice. She became ill in August and spent her final days in Edmonton in the loving care of family. She passed away in peace and in great anticipation of meeting her Saviour.
