COOTE, Russell Alfred - It is with great sadness that the family of Russell Alfred Coote, age 69, announces his passing on October 27, 2022, in Abbie J. Lane Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born in Summerside, P.E.I., on July 25,1953, Alf was the son of George Russell Coote, Greenville, S.C., and the late Evelyn Isabel (MacPherson) Coote. After high school Alf went on to graduate from Basic Training in Cornwallis, and served in the Royal Canadian Navy at CFB Stadacona in Halifax. Alfred was predeceased by infant son, Carl; and is survived by his sisters, Wendy (Barry) Archibald, Denver, N.S.; and Tammy (Steve) Fowler, South Carolina; and brothers, Dwight (Debbie) Coote, Bridgewater; and Dwayne (Kim) Coote, St. Catharines, Ont. From his apartment window, Alf enjoyed watching over the Halifax Harbour with his binoculars and would often share with us the ships (especially Navy) he would see. He also enjoyed visiting with Margie and his other friends at Sunrise Manor where he lived for many years. Visiting with his dad in South Carolina always made him happy and he would come back and share many fun stories. Alfred had a fantastic memory and was a very kind and caring person. He loved all his nieces and nephews very much as well as his grandnieces and nephews and was always interested in knowing what was going on in their lives. He very much enjoyed entertaining them with stories of some of the shenanigans he and some of his siblings would get up to as youngsters. His family would like to thank all the caring staff at the Halifax Infirmary and the Abbie J. Lane Building, Nine Lane, Halifax. We appreciate the kindness you showed Alfred during his long stay in hospital. A Memorial service will be held in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home on Windsor Street, Halifax, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 3rd. A Reception will follow. Burial will be in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, also on Windsor Street, Halifax. The funeral will be livestreamed and the link will be on the J.A. Snow Funeral Home website.
