Born in Miscouche, PEI on August 7, 1934 as Richard Anthony Keefe, the youngest child of the late Thomas Joseph Keefe and Eveline (Holland) Keefe. Due to tragic Keefe family circumstances, at age 3 he was adopted by the late Medius and Josephine (Perry) Wedge and grew up in Summerside, PEI with his adopted sister, Sally. He maintained life-long contact with his Keefe family. He attended St. Dunstan's University (now UPEI) in Charlottetown, excelling at rugby and hockey, graduating in 1955. He received his commission as a Sub-Lieutenant in the RCN and served on active duty for a year, leaving to attend Dalhousie Law School, graduating in 1959. After practicing law in Nova Scotia and then in Ottawa with the Dept. of Justice, he joined the Legal Dept. of Air Canada in Montreal in 1966. He rose to the executive ranks and was instrumental in establishing Air Canada air routes into the Peoples Republic of China and Eastern Europe in the 1970s. Upon retirement, he became an air carrier consultant in Canada and the USA. He relocated to Florida, then San Jose, California. In 2016, he moved back to Halifax to be closer to his daughter, Paula, also a lawyer. Richard is survived by his only child, Paula (Jane Verge), Western Shore, NS; sister, Sally (Gerard) Wynne, Charlottetown, PEI and their children, Michael (Lori St. Onge) PEI and Carolyn (Bruce) Roosen, Dartmouth, NS, their children, Medius and Carolyn, special "grandson" Joseph (Kaitlyn) Stern, Wash. Pender; second wife, Marilyn; his close friend and cousin, Richard ("Dick") Wedge and wife, Mary. All his Keefe siblings: Huntley, Thomas, Alphonsus, Marie, George and Anne. During his life, he was involved with the UNTDS while in university, the Canadian Naval Officers Association, the Air Canada Pionairs and the Dalhousie Law Alumni Association. There will be a graveside service in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery, Summerside, PEI, in Spring 2023. Details will be published closer to the date. Friends and family welcome.
