Patricia Merle Forler

Born: 22 May 1929, Assinboia, Saskatchewan

 

Died: 2022, North York, Ontario

 

FORLER, Patricia Merle, Sister - Sisterhood of St. John the Divine Died peacefully, at the Convent in North York, at age 93, and in her 48th year of Life Profession. She was born on May 22, 1929 in Assiniboia, SK, only child of Lillian Alletta (nee Wettergreen) and Melvin Grant Forler. Sr. Patricia attended the Presbyterian and United churches and joined the Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT). She completed nurses' training at the Moose Jaw General Hospital in 1953. She was a sub-lieutenant in Nursing with the Royal Canadian Navy from July 1956 – February 1958. Sr. Patricia trained to become a missionary, and was a United Church Deaconess 1960 – 1961. She returned to nursing and became interested in the Anglican Church. She was confirmed an Anglican in May 1966 in Kent, England. Sr. Patricia returned to Canada later that year due to her father's illness. Sr. Patricia entered the Community in September 1967, and made her Life Profession as a Sister of St. John the Divine on March 25, 1974. She was infirmarian at the convent five times, spent more than 10 years at St. John's Convalescent Hospital (SJCH), completed several courses in hospital administration and was Assistant Administrator. She was at St. John's Priory in Edmonton for several years, was Director of Western, Prairies and Overseas Associates and led many Quiet Days in the West. She will be fondly remembered by Associates who benefitted from her pastoral skills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Convent, 233 Cummer Avenue, Toronto, Ontario M2M 2E8.
