In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar

Allison Bristol (Pepper) Kingsmill (née Foster)

Wren Wireless Telegraphist (Special Operator) (Kana) (1), W4740, WRCNS

Born: 1922

Died: 16 Sep 2014

KINGSMILL, Allison Bristol (Pepper) (née FOSTER) - Pepper - died peacefully on September 16, in her 92nd year.

Predeceased by husband, Bill Survived by her brother, Bristol, daughters, Dorion and Suzanne and her five grandchildren, Tim, Cassandra, Jesse, Rita and Roblyn.

A private memorial service will be held sometime in the future. In lieu of flowers (Pepper was allergic!), donations to her favourite research project - the Dictionary of Old English, for which she worked for many years - would make her smile.

Notes: (1) Japanese has two “alphabets” called hiragana (curvy like English cursive), and katakana (angular like English print). The two together are called kana. Kana, as written here is reference to the 40 or so WT (SO) Wrens - plus seamen - who were taught to copy those Japanese messages on a special typewriter with four levels of keys vice 3.
