LOWRY, James William - It is with great sadness that the family of James William Lowry, 85, of First South, announce his passing on, Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.

 

Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late William and Myrtle Lowry.

 

In his earlier years, Jim served with the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and after the war started a lifetime career with Canadian National working in offices at Moncton, Lunenburg and Bridgewater and retired after 46 years service.

 

A faithful member of Central United Church, Lunenburg, Jim was Recording Secretary of the Official Board for over 50 years, an active Elder and member of the Board of Stewards and in his earlier years taught Sunday School.

 

In the life of his community, Jim was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 23, Lunenburg, where he was Chairman of the Poppy Fund and enjoyed sharing his wartime experiences with the younger generation throughout many local schools.

 

He was a dedicated member of Unity Lodge # 4, of the Masonic Order and enjoyed his memberships at the Lunenburg Curling Club and the Lunenburg Golf Club.

 

His life and witness has inspired many and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

 

Jim is survived by his wife the former Rosaline Jennings, sons, John (Susan), Truro; David, Bayport, Peter, First South; a grandson, Jordan and a brother and a sister.

 

He was predeceased by a brother Donald in infancy.

 

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, where a Masonic service will be held on Friday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a legion service at 6:45 p. m. and then visitation for friends from 7 to 9 p.m. A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.

 

No flowers by request, memorial donations may be made to Central United Church, Unity Lodge # 4, of the Masonic Order, the Poppy Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 23, Lunenburg or to a charity of your choice. (Sweeny Funeral Home)
