MACKENZIE, Gerald Brian (Jerry) - passed away peacefully on August 23, 2022, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He was born on November 26, 1937, and was a son to the late Walter and Ruth (Webber) MacKenzie. Those that knew Jerry could tell you that he was detailed oriented and conscious of doing everything right. This trait could probably be afforded to his 25-year career in the Royal Canadian Navy as a clearance diver on ships, retiring as a P1. He had a passion for swimming and was a marathon swimmer. Jerry swam in competitions at the Natal Day Parade and Northumberland Strait. He held the record for the 15 mile swim held in Halifax Harbour and was even invited to the Canadian National Exhibition world championships in Toronto. Jerry was a dedicated and proud Royal Canadian Legion member and was president and past president of Branch 155 Wedgeport. Jerry was a man of great faith and was an adherent of Brooklyn Catholic Church and then St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral. Above all else, Jerry’s children and family meant the world to him. Jerry is survived by his loving wife Corinne (Atkinson) MacKenzie; brother, Peter (Adele) MacKenzie; grandson, Ryan MacKenzie (Kathryn Bridson); great-granddaughter Ellie Jade Bridson MacKenzie; daughter-in-law, Lynda MacKenzie. Besides his parents Jerry was predeceased by his children, Brian and Michelle MacKenzie; siblings, Robert (Sylvia) Mackenzie, Doug (Muriel) MacKenzie, and Joan (Don) Hamilton-MacKenzie. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 7-9 P.M with a Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155 Wedgeport service at 7:30 P.M. followed by prayers. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 10 A.M. from St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral with Father Henry Smolenaars officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Following the interment a reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Wedgeport. In lieu of flowers donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund. (Sweeny's Funeral Home)
