NEWSON, Steven Donald - It is with great sadness that the family of Steven Donald Newson, age 81, announces his passing to eternal rest on August 5th in Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. Born in Westmoreland, P.E.I., to Enoch and Margaret (MacDonald) Newson, Steve enjoyed life on the farm until, at the young age of 16, he left home for the big city of Halifax. After a brief stint in the Navy, Steve started his career as a professional driver eventually joining Canadian National (CN) where he traveled countless miles across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for over three decades, returning to Albany, P.E.I., to work as dispatcher for CN for the remainder of his career. Steve was a skilled driver who trained other drivers including many friends and family. Steve met and married the love of his life, Debra (Clayton) and together raised four children: Beverly, Anita, Carter and Daniel. He was thrilled to become a grandfather and overjoyed to become a great -grampie. Steve loved to travel and meet people. Steve and Debbie enjoyed winters in Florida where they met fellow Canadians who became fast friends. Together they traveled across Canada and the United States multiple times visiting friends, family and their children who have lived in the Northwest Territories, New Brunswick, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and British Columbia. Steve and Debbie also enjoyed a cruise to Bermuda with daughter Beverly and son-in-law Blaine. Steve leaves to celebrate his life: Debbie, wife of 61 years, and children: Beverly Maxwell, Anita, and Daniel (Rebecca); grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Stow, Bradley (Sarah) Maxwell, Madaline and William Newson; and great grandchildren, Georgia and Henry Stow and Clayton Maxwell; sisters, Elaine (George) Sherren, Joyce (John) Vandergaag; brother, Robert; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Edward; sister, Norma; son, Carter; and son-in-law, Blaine. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff of Prince County Hospital, Summerside, who provided exceptional care and compassion to Steve. He appreciated their kindness and professionalism and was comfortable and confident in their care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Davison Funeral Home, Kensington. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 10th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th in Davison Funeral Home Chapel and will be available to view online by following the link on the funeral home’s online death notice. Interment to follow in Westmoreland Baptist Cemetery, Leards Mill Road, Westmoreland. Reception to follow in North Tryon Presbyterian Church.
