In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MORRISON, John Duncan McFarlane - The family of John (Jack) Duncan McFarlane Morrison sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, June 23rd. Jack was born on September 25, 1921 and lived in Kimberley his entire life, other than during World War II when he served as Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. Jack spent 44 years working at Cominco's Sullivan Mine, starting as an apprentice Blacksmith and completing his career as Mine Maintenance Superintendent (surface).
Marking Jack's passing is Jean, his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, his sons Jack (Lois) and Barrie (Charlene), grandchildren Kathryn (Tyler), Steven, Daniel, and Bryan (Kelsey), and great grandchildren Eric and Kenzie. Jack is also survived by sister Florence McGillivray of Kimberley. He was predeceased by brothers Donald (Deb) and Alan, sisters Margaret (Gordon) Wilson, and Iris (Bill) Neeve.
Jack will be fondly remembered for his love of and commitment to family. He had a strong sense of community and encouraged family and friends to socialize at his favourite watering-hole - the cabin at Wasa Lake. Over the years, he was often volunteering at the church, for Meals-on-Wheels, or for the ski hill as a Guest Guide, where he shared his love of the local lore. He proudly maintained his association with the Knights of Pythias, the Masons, the Eastern Star, and the naval veterans. He had a generosity of spirit that will be deeply missed.
A memorial service marking Jack's passing will be held on Friday, July 2nd at 2:00 pm at the United Church in Kimberley. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour him are asked to contribute to the Royal Canadian Legion (Kimberley Branch). (McPherson Funeral Service)
