PANDZICH, Martin John - Earthly journey began November 5, 1940 Sault Ste Marie, Ontario Earthly journey ended July 23, 2022 Hamilton, Ontario Martin passed away peacefully in his 82nd year at St. Joseph Hospital Hamilton. Thank you to the ICU doctors and nurses, the family was there with him as he began his journey home to be with his parents Stephen and Matilda Pandzich and his four siblings. He is survived by his spouse of 52 years Linda (nee Masten). Martin was very proud of his children and their accomplishments: Matthew (Petra); Mark; Yvonne (Doug); Luke (Marian) and Elizabeth-Ann (Spencer). He had a keen interest in the activities of his grandchildren. Martin enjoyed travelling to visit family members in Austria, Croatia and the United States. He was overjoyed to find relatives in Argentina, whom he visited with his daughters. He shared his pride and love of the Soo with his family. He will be missed by his nieces Theresa (Bruce); Barbara and nephew Nick. Martin was in management for many years at Stelco in Hamilton and Michigan. Martin joined RCNR in 1958 as a UNTD cadet at HMCS Hunter (U-436), Windsor. He served as Executive Officer of HMCS Star (Hamilton) from 1972 to 1975 and as the 22nd Commanding Officer of Star from 1975 to 1979. Subsequently promoted to Captain (N) he served as 17th Commanding Officer of HMCS Hunter from 1988 to 1991. He believed in the motto: Fear God, honour the Queen. His love of teaching drew him to be a part-time adjunct professor at the University of Algoma. Martin volunteered at The Good Shepherd and Hamilton Out of the Cold. He was a man of faith and felt blessed to have been a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph Hospital and Juravinski West 5th. He enhanced his faith through his membership as an Apostle of the Congregation of the Resurrection and quietly recruited new members. He had an appreciation of good books, good food and fine wine (especially his own). He loved his family and cherished his friends. We have lost a gentle soul. Rest in Peace my love. Cremation has taken place. Martin's funeral will be held at St. Joseph Church at 260 Herkimer Street, Hamilton on Thursday, August 4th.
