DENNY, Douglas Andrew - passed away on April 13, 2022 in Halifax after courageously fighting a battle with Cancer. Doug was born on October 23, 1969, in Grimsby, Ont. He was a son of Betty Denny and the late Lorne Denny and the youngest sibling of William, Barbara, and Diane. Doug first came to Nova Scotia in 1981 with his family, living in HRM and attending Sackville High School. After leaving school he joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he served for three years. He had a passion for communication through signals which drove him to become curious about the burgeoning business of computers. Doug pursued an education in this field at Henson College in the early 90s which led him to work on some of North America’s first internet networks and several “dot com” start-ups in Silicone Valley. He continued with a successful career in IT as a consultant for Sierra Systems, attaining his PMP status in 2015. In 2009, he met Danielle Pentland and quite simply fell in love. They were married in 2013 and have since enjoyed each other’s company and their many shared interests, whether it was taking long walks, bodyboarding at Conrads Beach, sailing or simply going to the movies. Their devotion to each other was often remarked upon by their many friends. Doug and Danielle’s family was completed by Doug’s children from an earlier marriage, Caitlin and Oliver and cat, Puff Kitty. Not only was Doug successful in his career and his marriage, but he was also well respected and adored by a large circle of friends. Doug practiced a program of recovery that provided peace in his life, and he supported others to find the same sense of happiness. Doug always acted with integrity, was generous, good natured and quick to share a belly laugh. More than anything Doug believed in the power of a good hug and was quick to give and receive them. He is survived by his wife, Danielle, together with daughter, Caitlin and son, Oliver, both of whom he could never see enough of, as well as his mother, Betty; brother, Bill (Claire); sisters, Barb and Diane (Tom). He will also be remembered by mother-in-law, Paddy; father-in-law, Dick, and brother-in-law, Patrick, as well as many uncles, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, to be announced. (The Saltwire Network 18 Apr 2022)
