In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
TRAYNOR, Patrick Anthony (Pat) - The man, the myth and the legend, Patrick Anthony Traynor (Pat) left planet Earth on April 11, 2022 and now rests among the stars. Pat was born in Toronto on December 30, 1940 to parents Jean (MacDonald Jones) and Patrick Traynor. He began his life-long journey as a hopeless romantic, roller skating at the Mutual Street arena. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1960, crediting the Navy with changing the course of his life from a troubled start. His naval career brought him to Nova Scotia where he experienced the ocean for the first time. Upon tasting the saltwater he knew that the sea was where he belonged. He served in the Navy until 1975 reaching the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. His next adventure took him to northern New Brunswick where he worked as Fire Chief at Brunswick Mines for 20 years. He also volunteered and worked at the Bathurst Aquatic Centre where he took his passion for the water and combined it with his natural teaching and coaching skills. He was famously regarded as one of the oldest lifeguards in Canada and made a name for himself teaching adults to swim while helping people overcome their fear of water. Ever young at heart, at the age of 68, he took up motorcycling, and at 70 he bought his first Harley. In 2021, at the age of 80, he transitioned to an e-bike. After living for more than 40 years in New Brunswick, he recently returned to Nova Scotia, where he felt most at home. He was a member of the Musquodoboit Harbour & District Lions Club where he rose from Baby Lion to Tail Twister. Pat was curious, exuberant, and filled with wonder; he was a lover of the natural world, had a huge heart for animals and had an endless thirst for knowledge. Always up to date on the latest technology, he was paying close attention to the recent trips to Mars. It was the pride of his life to be the Chief of the Traynor Clan. He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth, his three sons, Sonny (Denise), Jeromy (Rebecca), and Michael (Sarah), the favourite daughter Sandra, his grandchildren Jamie, Jesyka and Brody and his 2+ great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife Patsy and second wife Sharon and will be dearly missed by many friends, admirers and extended family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. (Atlantic Funeral Homes Dartmouth Chapel)
