John James Cordiner

Died: 17 Mar 2022, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

CORDINER, John James - age 86, of Dartmouth passed away March 17, 2022 in the VG Site QEII with his loving family by his side. Born in Hamilton, Ont., he was a son of the late John James and Sarah (McDowall) Cordiner. He was a Chief Petty Officer with the Royal Canadian Navy, and was proud that he was the editor of their Trident newspaper. He retired from the navy in the late 1970’s and later enjoyed a successful sales career in the automotive industry, and owned his own automotive business. He was a competitive sportsman, and will be remembered by many for his softball pitching style. John was active in many Dartmouth youth hockey associations, where he coached many young athletes from Atom to Junior leagues. He loved singing Barbershop with the City of Lakes Dartmouth Chorus for 35 years. He will be fondly remembered for his love of performing on the stage. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Bonita Cordiner; sons, Glenn and Robert; daughter, Natalie Cordiner (Norman LeBlanc); sisters, Ann Depew, Rita Kozack, brother, Michael Kozack; grandchildren, Bonita LeBlanc, Dominique LeBlanc, Olivia LeBlanc, Kyle Cordiner, Marie Cordiner. He was predeceased by brother, Robert Cordiner. Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of his life with family and friends will take place at a later date.
