In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
NICKERSON, Clinton Reese - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Clinton Reese Nickerson, age 92, on March 17, 2022. He was born in Barrington Shelburne County, Nova Scotia to parents, Mary (Lewis) Nickerson and Samuel Wesley Nickerson.
Clinton or Nick, as he was referred to by his Navy buddies, joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the tender age of 20 serving for a year before moving into the special forces unit in Korea during the Korean War. Upon retuning to Canada he made the Navy his career, serving on numerous ships, retiring as Chief Petty Officer 1st class. He met the love of his life, Jean McCaul, in Ontario while on leave in Camp Borden. They were married sixty-six years before she passed. After he retired from the forces he worked as a commissioner at the Dartmouth General Hospital and then at the Halifax International Airport. During his retirement years he had many varied interests; he loved hunting and playing cribbage. He enjoyed working with wood and created many lovely furnishings for our homes, many of which we still have as reminders of his skill in woodworking. He even dabbled in cooking making delicious cakes, cupcakes, and Christmas goodies, there really wasn’t any better fish chowder or baked beans in the world than his. He loved family gatherings and often expressed the pride he felt in his family. Our dad was always there to offer a helping hand, he was generous to a fault, always teasing and joking, he had a great sense of humour as well. We learned so much about life by growing up with such a strong role model.
He will be dearly missed by his children and in-laws, Richard (Barb Curren), Wanda (Gerald Dillman), Pamela, Darlene (Ken Farrell), Marion (Jim Mackie), and Paula; his grandchildren, Garett (Emily) Dillman, Randall (Megan) Dillman, Christopher (Nicholette) Nickerson, Robert (Alex Warman) Nickerson, Thomas Nickerson, Ian (Heidi) Kerr, Tracy Kerr, Aaron (Ashley) Farrell, Ryan (Mickeelie Webb) Farrell, Laura (Rodney) Croft, Amey (Morgan M.) Farrell; his great-grandchildren, Katrina Kerr, Milla Kerr, Emmett Kerr, Claire Dillman, Jack Dillman, Lena Dillman, Simon Nickerson, Sylvie Nickerson, and Reese Croft.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean; his sisters, Kathleen and Betty; his brothers, Brenton, Roger, Avery, and Lee.
Our family would like to thank the staff on 4-West and the Palliative care team at Camphill, Veterans Memorial Hospital for their caring and loving attention to the needs of our incredible dad. Also a special thank you to Samantha the RN who sat with our dad through the night. We couldn’t be more grateful to this team of very professional people. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Meagher’s Grant Cemetery or the Lower Musquodoboit Pastoral Charge in his memory.
