In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MURPHY, Michael Ryan - 73, of Forest Glade, passed away at home on Sunday, January 30, 2022. Known as either “Mike” or “Murf”, he was born in Chatham, New Brunswick. Mike was a son of Eppie Bagley and the late Ryan Murphy. Mike grew up between Napan, New Brunswick and Vancouver, British Columbia (being from a military family). Much of his time was spent working on the farm, hunting, trapping, and generally getting into mischief with his siblings. In his teen years, he also began working at “the fish and chip shack”, where he met many interesting people. At a crossroads, Michael decided to enlist in the regular forces in 1968 where he became an Avionics Electrician. During his years of service, he was part of the response to the FLQ Crisis, was deployed to Egypt as part of a UN Peacekeeping Mission, and sailed many places around the world on destroyers. Mike met his wife of 43 years, Linda, in Halifax. Mike separated from the CAF in the 1990’s while posted at CFB Greenwood. Mike then signed up with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, for which he worked for the next 20-ish years, where he manned Checkpoint Charlie and was a dispatcher for the MP’s. Mike finally retired in 2014, spending his time with Linda. Mike loved his family and friends, putting on a brew of wine or beer to share with family and friends, and spending time outdoors whether gardening, farming, hunting, or shooting one of his bows. He never truly outgrew his mischievous streak, and almost always had a joke or story to tell. Surviving is his son, Matthew (Krista Ogletree), Forest Glade; mother, Eppie Bagley, Miramichi, NB; sisters, Marsha Bowes, Miramichi, NB; Sharon Murphy (Kevin Gardiner), Napan, NB; brothers, Rick (Agnes) Murphy; Leo (Judy) Murphy, both of Napan, NB and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his wife, Linda. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Soldier On, or Diabetes Canada. (Middleton Funeral Home)
