Internships in Montreal at Royal Victoria Hospital and Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, a residency in Vancouver and a Pathology Fellowship at Babies Hospital in New York City followed. In 1955 Bob was certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He then joined friend and colleague, Jack Whitelaw, in practice in Vancouver. From 1955-1992 Bob worked in a busy Pediatric Consulting Practice which included a group of highly esteemed and excellent pediatricians. He was head of newborn care at the Grace Hospital and then BC Women's Hospital for over 30 years; where he had a reputation as a fair and effective administrator. Bob was a legendary teacher and clinician. He taught 4th year medical students at Grace Hospital, as well as a 3rd year lecture series in Office Pediatrics. When Bob retired from active pediatric practice, he continued in administrative roles as VP of Medicine and acting CEO at Grace Hospital, and VP of Medicine at BC Women's Hospital. Dr. Bob had a presence which you could not ignore. He was known for calling a "spade a spade" but always in a caring and supportive manner. He was a devoted husband and father, who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. For many years Bob and all his family were avid skiers. In retirement, Bob and Grace enjoyed a good game of golf and cruising the world. A life exceptionally well lived. He will be greatly missed! (The Globe and Mail 26 Mar 2022)
