Lieutenant, RCN(R)

Died: 08 Mar 2022

MORRIS, Robert James - Peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital, in his 95th year, Robert (Bob) James Morris passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Predeceased by his sweetheart (wife) of 65 years, Laura (nee Barnard), and brother Fred (WWII). Dear father of Susan (Kirby) and Janet (David) and honorary father of John (Cathy). Much-loved grandfather of Andrew (Michelle), Taryn, James and Kathleen. Cherished great-grandfather of Griffin, Aaron and Nora. He will be greatly missed by beloved family in Washington State, Ontario and Alberta. Bob was in the sea cadets, UNTD and served in the RCN(R) until 1957. As a reservist, he was asked to design the first haul-down device (beartrap) to stabilize helicopters on ship decks. He was very proud of the line of semi-trailers he designed at Brantford Coach and Body. In 1961, he became a professional engineer (mechanical). After a long career as an engineer in the HVAC field, he was hired to teach mechanical engineering subjects at Humber College, where he created the Refrigeration Air Conditioning (Sales) Program. Upon retirement, he began a consulting career which resulted in him becoming owner and president of Madok Manufacturing in Brantford. He subsequently sold the business to retire (again). He was active in NOAC-HAG and enjoyed sharing anecdotes from his time in Sea Cadets, UNTD and the RCN(R). He was a life member of ASHRAE where he became president of the Hamilton Chapter in 1984/85. He later served in several executive roles in the ASHRAE Life Members Club. Bob loved to share "so many memories" and repeatedly said that he had "lived a good life". He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. Special thanks to the nurses, physiotherapist, respiratory therapists, and doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital, 4th floor, CTU West for their amazing care. Thanks also to the doctors ("one for every part of my body") who kept him going for 94 years. We are blessed to have had him so long. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice would be appreciated. Visitation will take place at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, Ontario on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 10-11 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 11 a.m. It will also be live-streamed on the Bay Gardens website.
