HACKETT, Michael Winfield - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Winfield Hackett on February 9, 2022, at the age of 96.

 

Michael was husband to the late Yolande Thibault and father to Patrick (Barbara), Marie (deceased), Michael, Frank (Renay), Winfield and Claude (Marie). Grandfather to Kyla, Michelle, Emilie, and Katherine and son of Felix Winfield and Eva Gertrude Hackett. Michael was predeceased by his sisters Cora, Sybil, and Eva Rose and brothers John (Olive deceased), Win (Anna, Lorie), and Ryan (Margaret deceased). Michael is survived by his sister Ann (Robert Lehane deceased).

 

Michael grew up in Montreal and summered in Stanstead East where he met his beloved wife of over 50 years, Yolande. Michael served with the Royal Canadian Navy at the end of World War II in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. He worked for General Motors for 32 years, was an important volunteer for Chateauguay minor football and hockey, and was an active member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Chateauguay. After his retirement, Michael entered municipal politics and was an alderman in Chateauguay for twelve years. He spent many summers and most of his retirement at the family cottage in Stanstead East with Yolande, where they enjoyed family gatherings, sunsets, golf, cross-country skiing and writing. Michael was a passionate history buff and fervently followed Quebec politics. He was also known to be a gifted storyteller, chronicling many tales of his past. Michael will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his church, and his company, as well as his community.

 

Many thanks to the kind and compassionate administrators, staff, and volunteers of Grace Village and Manoir Renaissance in Lennoxville, Quebec from 2017- 2022, as well as the staff of the Hôtel-Dieu de Sherbrooke (CHUS) for their thoughtful care.

 

An inurnment will take place at a later date in Stanstead, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. (The Sherbrooke Record 14 Feb 2022)
