Frederick George Hasler

Died: 24 Dec 2021, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

 

HASLER, Frederick George - Age 91 of Dartmouth, died peacefully in Lewis Hall, Parkland at the Lakes on December 24, 2021. Born in Hamilton, Ont., Fred was the eldest child of Frederick John Hasler and Annie Hasler (Dawson). He is survived by his sons, Daniel Hasler (Marlene), Randy Hasler; and granddaughter, Laura Hasler. Predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Carol Hasler; brother, William Hasler; and sister, Beverley Hasler. Fred spent 26 years in the Canadian Navy rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class where he served as a Chef in the food services branch, posted on both ships and land bases. After retirement from the Navy he worked at the Federal Department of Supply and Services for 13 years, retiring in 1990. Fred’s early years of retirement were spent travelling with his wife Carol and close friends, he enjoyed gardening, and he loved to bowl. He could often be spotted around the neighborhood on his morning walks. He also enjoyed making and decorating wedding cakes for many family and friends. One of Fred’s proudest moments was in the 1960’s when he saved a drowning man’s life in the St. Lawrence River. He received a commendation for bravery from the Associate Minister of National Defense. Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of life for both Fred and Carol will be held in the summer of 2022 with a date yet to be confirmed. In lieu of flowers.
