In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SKILLEN, Terence Martin - Passed away peacefully at age 81 on Friday, January 28, 2022, at home with his family. Predeceased by parents Alfred J. Skillen and Mary A. Lachapelle, and his sister Linda Kennedy. Survived by his sister Freda Kantor (Bill), his spouse Ginette Watson and daughters Karen (Chris), Tamara (D'Arcy), Rebecca (Haley) and son Adam, by grandchildren Thomas Barbeau, Madeleine Barbeau, Ellis Piagno, Nolan Piagno, and Riley Piagno, stepson Kevin Watson, and six nieces and nephews. Terry was born in Sudbury ON, lived in Garson until age 9, Carleton Place until age 16, then Arnprior until he joined the Royal Canadian Navy at age 18 and served for five years. Terry earned a BA from Carleton University (1968) and an MSW from University of Toronto (1972). His professional career included school and hospital social work and a private counselling practice. Terry married twice before settling down with Ginette for 27 years, 18 of which were in Carleton Place, ON. Terry retired in 2000. His time with us was unexpectedly shortened when he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in August 2020. Terry was at peace as he approached his death, satisfied that he brought closure to his busy life. Many thanks to Dr. Erika Tanner and the Bayshore Palliative Care nursing staff for all their support. Details of a celebration of life will become available at a later time.
