In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DOW, Herbert John - beloved father of Bev, Bill, and Doug (Louise), and grandfather of Nellie, Théo (Tianna), Malcolm (Melissa), Stuart (Zoe), Amus (Sabrina), passed away quietly on December 24, 2021. Born in Saskatoon, Herb grew up on a Saskatchewan farm with his siblings - Nora, Dave (deceased) and Liz, where he acquired a relentless work ethic and a deep respect for people, the land, and animals. While attending the College of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, he interrupted his studies to serve in WWII (Royal Canadian Navy, Lt-Cmdr). After graduating with a BSc., he married his wartime sweetheart, Frances (deceased), and went on to a full and happy family life, and a significant career as an investment advisor with Houston and Willoughby, ultimately retiring as Senior Vice President. After retirement, he was appointed to the Saskatchewan Securities Commission where he served until 1997. Herb was Naval aide de camp for five Lieutenant Governors and active in many service and community groups and activities: Royal Canadian Legion, U of S Alumni groups and Senate, St. Luke's Anglican Church, Rotary, to name a few. Herb was an inspiration to all who knew him and is much missed and deeply loved. Kindly consider making a donation in Herb's memory to the charity of your choice.
