PATTERSON, Dorothy (née MAWFORD) - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dorothy Patterson, of Calgary, AB, announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Dorothy graduated from Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg, MB, where she was born and raised. In 1943, Dorothy joined the WRCNS, where she served two and a half years in WWII at the Halifax chart depot. Dorothy met Leagh Patterson in New York, NY; while they were both on shore leave. They were married in Winnipeg on December 28, 1945. Shortly after saying their vows, Leagh and Dorothy moved to Calgary, and built the family home on 12th Avenue NW. Leagh and Dorothy had six children, five surviving. Apart from raising her children, Dorothy spent many hours working to help out with the family business "Mountain View Bowl". In addition to being a mother and enjoying all the bowling business had to offer, Dorothy enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, traveling, playing piano and bicycling. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlepoint. Her family could always expect a handcrafted Christmas gift, making the holidays at the Patterson family home that much more memorable. Dorothy is survived by her five children, Lucill (Leonard) Maddison, Dean Patterson, Lorea Patterson, Leao (Ron) Vermeylen and Daren (Denise) Patterson. She is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband, Leagh, in October 2008, and by their infant daughter Ledonna. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Leyden's Chapel of Remembrance at 1:00 p.m. Private Interment at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Chinook Care Centre for their good care of Dorothy. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to make a donation in Dorothy's name to a charity of your choice.
