Marie Catherine (Kitty) Kelley

KELLEY, Marie Catherine (Kitty) - Catherine, or "Kitty" Kelley, as she was known to her friends and family, passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital in Ottawa at the age of 94, after a long life of adventure and travel around the world. She was born 18 August 1919 to James and Laura (nee Houde) Kelley. She was preceded in death by her sisters Donnie Campbell and Ruth Scully, and is survived by her nephews James (Betheny) Campbell and Michael Scully. Kitty grew up in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and graduated from Mount St. Vincent College in Halifax in 1940. Kitty's adventures began in WWII when she volunteered for the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS) and set sail for London, where she served during the Blitz. After the war, Kitty joined the Department of External Affairs and went directly from London to Athens. Overseas postings included Cuba, Turkey, New York, New Delhi, Tokyo, and Kuala Lumpur. She eventually retired in Ottawa. Kitty was a very special lady who will be missed by her many close friends, as well as her nephews and their families. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 28, at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, 95 Somerset Street West, Ottawa. (The Ottawa Citizen 22 Mar 2014)
