BUSBY, Joseph Miller (Joe) - passed away peacefully at age 96 with his wife Betty at his side. He was born on the family farm in Grenfell, Saskatchewan and is predeceased by his parents, brothers Gordon, Ross, and John, and sisters Anne, Laura, Mary, Eileen, and Jean. He is lovingly remembered by his sister Olive, his wife Betty Walshaw, daughters Janet (Zoe/Alex & Gavin), Gerry (Kelsey/Mike) and Denice & Craig (Mathew & Jessica/Hamed), son-in-law Rob Thoms, Betty's son Jim Walshaw (Bob, Nicole/Darren and Miller & Coco) and many nieces & nephews and good friends that he loved so dearly. After serving in the Navy he completed barber school and became known as Joe The Barber opening his first shop on Cadboro Bay Road. He and first wife Emily built a home in Cordova Bay and raised 3 girls who enjoyed an idyllic childhood filled with beach adventures and camping trips in the family trailer. He was very athletic and played hockey, baseball, curling, and tennis. In 1980 he met the love of his life Betty, and in retirement they enjoyed a busy social calendar with dancing, cribbage, lawn bowling, and travel, including a trip around the world. Generous with their time and energy, they delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years, and raised funds for Huntington's Disease research. Our annual camping trips to Stamp Falls were the highlight of the year, and Joe and Betty's campsite was always the hub of activity with blueberry pancakes in the morning and lots of games and activities through the day. Joe had a heart of gold and taught us the importance of family from an early age. We were all so blessed to have him in our lives. Our gratitude goes out to the wonderful medical professionals and staff at Veterans Memorial Lodge for their outstanding care and compassion for Joe and his family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Published by The Times Colonist from Dec. 11 to Dec. 13, 2021
