MacDONALD, Bernard Ignatius - Sadly, we the family of Bernard Ignatius MacDonald announce his passing at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, Nova Scotia on June 27, 2017.

 

He was the son of the late Michael B. MacDonald and Johanna MacCormack of East Bay and French Road.

 

Bernie earnestly joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1943. He was proud to serve his country overseas on the corvettes HMCS BRANDON and HMCS KINCARDINE as a radar operator. Following his years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy, Bernie opened and operated Bernie’s Appliance Store in the North End of Sydney.

 

Bernie is survived by sons, Michael (Lisa Rossignol) and Paul (Melanie Hall); daughter-in-law, Ann Campbell, and sister, Carmelita. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Williams) MacDonald; son, Danny; and siblings, Jimmy, Liz, Refina, Joe, Kay, Teresa, John Hugh and Vince.

 

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017, with visitation at 10 a.m., and funeral to follow at 11:30 a.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, located at 564 Alexandra St., in Sydney. Fr. Norman MacPhee to officiate; internment taking place at Resurrection Cemetery. (Chant Funeral Home)
