In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WOODBURY, Elizabeth Ann (Liz) (née Paterson) - Liz Woodbury was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, John (Jack) Lloyd Woodbury. Loving and cherished mother of Elizabeth Irene (Guy Quesnel) and Nova Lorraine, grandmother of Alexander Woodbury Barton (Jessica Anne Higgins) and great-grandmother of Jack Wesley Barton. Predeceased by parents Robert and Emma Patterson and siblings Helena, Ellen (Pat), Robert, William and Joseph.
Liz was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up in Victoria, BC. At a young age, she joined the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service, where she met many lifelong friends and through which she met her husband. Liz led a full life of continual learning; she read voraciously and gave her time generously, with many years of volunteering at the Canadian Museum of Nature and the Good Companions Centre in Ottawa. She loved to travel and was quick to embrace new cultures. She particularly enjoyed walks in the country around Ottawa and Barry’s Bay, and at various points in her life she embraced cross-country skiing, golfing, curling, league bowling, Scottish Country Dancing and was a skilled marksman. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing gardening tips and plants with her neighbours and friends.
She will be greatly missed by her family and leaves behind an unfillable void. A memorial event will be held in Victoria at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada are appreciated.
Webmaster's Note: The WRCNS disbanded in 1946 which means that she likely joined the RCN(R) as the RCN not accept women from 1946 to 1955.
