Following her time as a radar technician she went to work for Imperial Oil, Bedford Institute of Oceanography, various contract positions with Dalhousie University and finally at NSCC Stellarton Campus as Data Processing Instructor where she retired in 1994.
Following her retirement Isla enjoyed spending time with family and friends, art, music, poetry, conversation and singing in several Barber Shop Quartets.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley (Norman) Edge, Cochrane, AB; her four children, Janice McHattie, Daniel Milligan, Wanda Henwood, Patrick "Luke" Milligan; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Jack Moore. Isla will always be remembered for her wit, intelligence, sense of adventure and willingness to help in a time of need and where a quick trip for a loaf of bread could take all day as she loved to talk with anyone and everyone.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life gathering on Sunday, September 19th from 2:30-4:30 PM at The Peg Event Centre (across from Masstown Market), Masstown, NS. Even in her final months, Mom would recite this poem from memory:
INVICTUS
Out
of the night that covers me,
In
the fell clutch of circumstance
Beyond
this place of wrath and tears
It
matters not how strait the gate,
