THOMPSON, Randolph Henry (Randy) - On October 28, 2021, due to complications from dementia, our cherished and much-loved father, Randolph Henry Thompson, passed away with family and caregivers by his side. Randy was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce (Lescisin), beautiful son Scott, son-in-law Bill McGrath, brothers Jack and Buster, parents Mary and Samuel, extended family, and friends. Randy will be greatly missed and always remembered by his children Deanna, Darci, Dean (Mairi) and Dale (Jennifer); his grandchildren Scottie, Reese, Cameron and Mia; and extended family, friends, neighbours and caregivers. Randy was born in Salmon Arm, BC, and raised in Golden, BC, where he attended school. As a young man, Randy enlisted with the Canadian Navy, where he served for five years. During this time, Randy met his wife Joyce in Vancouver. They later moved to Golden where they raised their family and owned and operated Mary's Motel, as well as other businesses. Before retiring, Randy and Joyce relocated to Powell River, where Randy worked as a realtor. Randy loved his family and found joy in dogs, wool hats, hugs, Hawkins cheezies, ice cream, baking bread, making tomato soup, chopping wood, hunting, fishing, gardening, piloting planes, sailing, kayaking, skiing and exploring the land. There was often a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. He was a good man: warm, honest, kind and likeable. He had a knack for making those around him feel comfortable and respected. He took great pleasure in helping others. The family is profoundly grateful for the compassion, kindness, love and care Randy received during the last few years. A special thanks to those in House 2 and throughout Willingdon Creek Village, Randy's companions, his physician Dr. Rossouw, and his caregivers at Dale Manor. A celebration of Randy's life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 2 to 4 pm at The Seasider Bistro, near the Beach Gardens Marina, in Powell River. The family invites those who knew Randy to please attend, share a story or memory and celebrate his life. As per COVID-19 protocols, proof of double vaccinations are required to attend this event. Donations in Randy's memory may be made to the PRISMA Festival or the Brain Canada Foundation. (The Powell River Peak 12 Nov 2021)
