Robert (Bob) Horncastle, C.D.

 

Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, Radar Plotter, RCN / C.A.F.

 

Died: 2005

 

HORNCASTLE, Robert (Bob) - joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Two of his postings included the shore-based establishment HMCS NADEN at Esquimalt, and HMCS KOOTENAY, a Restigouche-class destroyer escort that served in the RCN from 1959 until 1996. Bob was aboard the Kootenay on a NATO exercise in 1969 when an explosion on the ship killed nine sailors. He retired from the navy in 1972. After his service, Bob worked for CIBC and then he became the Secretary-Treasurer of NB Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, a member of Hampton Branch # 28, Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of the Atlantic Chief and Petty Officers Association. He was a member of the Church of the Ascension, Hampton, and a director of Hampton Senior Resource Centre. Bob died in 2005.
