CHIPMAN, Peter A. - Memories of the warm, mellow tones of Peter Chipman's voice will be cherished by family, friends and fans since his passing at Delta Hospital in Ladner. He was 76. Music was a constant during Peter's life and various careers. Born in Ottawa, Peter grew up in Saint John, NB where he taught himself to accompany his singing on the guitar. While attending UNB (University Naval Training Division), Peter formed a folk group, the Henchmen, that performed any time they could including Don Messer's Jubilee. While travelling with the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve, Peter fell in love with the West Coast. After fulfilling his RCNR obligations he moved to Victoria to work as a stockbroker at Pemberton Securities. In his spare time, he also performed with the Victoria Operatic Society in several musicals, before launching into a full-time singing career. Peter performed all over the world for 12 years. Near the end of that career, he had an opportunity to sing on a Variety Show of Hearts Telethon in the mid 80's and then became a regular entertainer and co-host of the event until 2018. But the sea called Peter back in the 80's when he became a partner at Cooper Boating Centre on Granville Island, Vancouver. In 1989 he married his wife Patricia on the bow of a boat in Princess Louisa Inlet. Peter's final career was fundraising as the Director of Planned Giving at Variety - The Children's Charity, where he delighted in building donor relationships and stewarded legacy giving to help children with special needs. Peter earned his fundraising credentials, mentored others, and later taught planned giving at BCIT. He was also a longtime board member of both the Naval Officers Association of BC and the Princess Louisa Inlet Society. Throughout his life Peter was a tireless performer, a good friend and a generous donor. If you are inspired to donate in honour of Peter, he would have suggested the following organizations: Variety the Children's Charity of BC or Princess Louisa Inlet Society. Due to current health orders, a celebration of life is planned for summer 2022. (The Victoria Times Colonist 06 Oct 2021)
