LAVIGNE, Gerald J.A. (Gerry) - passed away at the age of 87 on August 3, 2010, at the Spring Valley Care Centre, Kelowna, B.C. Gerry was predeceased by his second wife, Leta Lavigne (née Williams) who was taken by COVID-19 three months earlier, leaving behind stepsons Ronald Amero (Barbara) and Daniel Amero Veronica); and stepdaughter Sheila Ede (Leonard). Gerry was a very kind and caring person, caring for his wife for many years, and kind to everyone despite his frustrations due to having Alzheimer’s. Born in Timmins, ON on August 30, 1934, Gerry joined the Navy as a young man escaping the mines, spending his whole career of over 30 years on various Naval ships with Nova Scotia as his home port. He frequently said the Navy was the best thing that ever happened to him. He was proud of his service record and of being a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He and Leta spent many years RV-ing throughout Canada and the US, over-wintering in southern California with summers at their home in Kelowna, BC. The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to the staff of the Spring Valley Care Centre in Kelowna for the great care he received over the past two years. A special thanks also to Dr. R. Williams for his care over many years. The support of BC Interior Health and Veterans Affairs Canada was very much appreciated. Arrangements have been made for a Naval burial at sea. A donation in his memory to your local Royal Canadian Legion or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
