MILLS, Richard Alexander (Dick) - Passed away September 23, 2021. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our loving husband, father, and grandfather Richard (Dick) Alexander Mills. Born in Almonte, Ont., he was a son of the late Frank and Winnifred Mills. Dick will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sharon Mills (Bellefontaine); his children, Robert Mills (Kim), Lynn Mills; and his adoring granddaughter, Shayna Mills. Dick was a strong, hard working man who devoted his whole life to raising and supporting his family. Dick retired from his career in the Navy early in his life, and a millwright by trade, he worked at the Halifax Shipyard and later Ceres Corp. Dick loved to be outdoors in the sun. He had a green thumb and loved to work in his gardens. Dick was a genuinely kind and generous man who would quietly ensure that his loved ones were always taken care of. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends. He loved having them around his kitchen table laughing and playing cards. When he was home with his wife they would most often be found together watching golf, hockey or racing. Above all, Dick knew how to make people feel loved and appreciated when they were around him. He had a unique gift for making the people he loved feel special. Dick was predeceased by his brother, Charlie Mills; and is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Galt (Pat), David Mills, Paul Mills (Fay), Michael Mills (Linda), Nora Mills, Frances Mills; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was very close to, and was predeceased by his in-laws, Francis and Helene Bellefontaine. He had strong relationships with his brother and sisters-in-law, and was loved by his many nieces and nephews. Dick was loved and supported by his "friends that were his family" who he treasured. He led a life that was rich in love and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by so many. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses at Dartmouth General Emergency that took such good care of him in his final hours. There will be a reception in Jamieson's Irish House and Grill, Cole Harbour, Wednesday, September 29th, from 12-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
