Raymond Burton Eldridge

Died: 16 Oct 1993, Beaver Harbour, New Brunswick

 

ELDRIDGE, Raymond Burton - of Beaver Harbour, beloved husband of Theresa M. (MacEachern) Eldridge, died unexpectedly at his residence Oct. 16. He was born in Beaver Harbour, the son of the late Maurice S. Eldridge and Ida M. (Maxwell) Eldridge. In earlier years, he worked as a weir and lobster fisherman, then moved to Saint John where he worked for the Saint John Milling Company, PolyCello, and retired from the Bank of Canada. He served in the Second World War in the RCNVR, having served overseas on HMCS TEME. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and returned to Beaver Harbour in his retirement years, where he attended Christ Anglican Church in Pennfield. Besides his wife, his is survived by one daughter, Janice Lea and her husband, Leland Thomas of Saint John; one son Maurice Alexander and his wife Sharon of Rothesay; two sisters Mrs. Enid Theriault of Beaver Harbour and Mrs. Rowena Seamans of Hamilton, Ontario; two brothers Adrian and J. Charles of Pennfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The body rested at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row. Funeral service will be held at Christ Anglican Church, Pennfield at 2 p.m., Oct. 20 with Rev. Canon David Genge officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Anglican Church (Building Fund), Pennfield, or the charity of the donor's choice, would be appreciated by the family. Raymond joined the RCNVR at age 17 (circa 1942). He completed training at HMCS CORNWALLIS and later shipped overseas to England on the troopship RMS MAURETANIA where he was drafted to HMCS TEME.  He was serving in TEME when she was torpedoed 0n 29 Mar 1945.

 

Raymond's two brothers Herbert Eldridge and Eugene Eldridge both served in the RCNVR as well.
