In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WRIGHT, Lionel Roger - 80, of Dartmouth, NS, died peacefully at home on June 11, 2021. Born on July 8, 1940, in Kingston, ON, to the late Wesley and Gladys Wright, he left Ontario and joined the Navy in 1958. Over the next 31 years, he served on many ships, as well as at CFB Halifax, until his retirement in February 1989. During that time, he met and wed the love of his life in September 1961 and in 1962, their only child was born.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn “Erma” (Cluett), son Craig (Tracy) who he adored, and twin grandsons Sean & Adam who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his sister Delores Campsall, sister-in-law Betty Wright, brother-in-law Murray (Susan) Cluett, sister-in-law Eleanor Cluett, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. We would also be remiss if we did not mention Retamay (Carl) Firth who was like a sister to him as well as his niece Angela Dixon who was like a daughter to him.
He was a proud member of both the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #160, as well as the Shriners.
Wherever there was live country or bluegrass music, Roger could be found nearby. He and his wife loved to attend the Bluegrass Festivals, and never missed the Hank Snow Festival. Other than music, he also loved nice vehicles which led to him purchasing his dream car, a burgundy 2008 STS Cadillac, which he drove proudly around town until his death.
As per his wishes, Roger was cremated under the care of the Dartmouth Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life, as well as Interment, will be held at a later day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the IWK Children’s Hospital, which he was forever grateful to for taking such great care of his grandsons when they were born 2 ˝ months early.
