COLBERT, John E. - Photographer, Veteran WWII, Space Pioneer.  Peacefully in his home on February 28, 2021 at the age of 93 years. Born 1927, Asquith, Saskatchewan, the center of the British Empire. Predeceased by his cherished wife Diane for 53 years. Dear father of Hazen of Vancouver and Maury of Ottawa and grandfather of Sarah Rae. Predeceased by his parents Milton and Mildred Colbert and his brothers William Colbert and Roy Serson. John was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy serving from 1945-1952. He was a graduate of the first Royal Canadian Navy Photographic Class, Dockyard, Halifax, N.S. 1947. John went on to own a photographic commercial business. He was a photographer for the Alouette and ISIS Satellite programs. He produced the first Inogramme photographic images from the Alouette 1, his achievements are noted in the Museum of Science and Technology. John was the former Manager Creative Visual Services, Communications Research Centre, Shirley Bay, Ottawa. John was a Life Member Chaudiere Lodge A.F. and A.M. #264 and was awarded a 50 year emblem of service. He was also awarded the 50 year Grand Chapter Royal Arch Mason's of Canada medal in 2004, member Carleton Chapter #16. He was a charter member and past president, past Governor and life member of the Optimist Clubs of Ottawa West, Nepean. A life member of Lisgar Collegiate Alumni and a member of the Madawaska Golf Club since 1988. "A special warm heartfelt thank you to Diane Festeryga for her love and passionate spirit for life, her humour and type "A" personality to rejuvenate my life." A visitation and funeral service to honour John will be held once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
