In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MANAK, Miles John - Of Dartmouth. It is with extremely heavy hearts and profound heartfelt sorrow, that we the family of Miles Manak announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and grandfather in his 87th year. Dad passed away peacefully in Dartmouth on July 8, 2021. Das was born in Toronto on May 18, 1934 to the late George (Jiri) Manak and Anna (Ostrey) Manak. He joined the reserve Navy in Toronto May 23, 1951 until transferring to the RCN November 8, 1951. He served in the RCN/CAF for 25 and a half years, while serving on several ships and shore establishments until his retirement on May 20, 1977. He then transferred back to the reserve Navy for an additional nine and a half years until May 18, 1989. Dad was also employed by DND at CFB Halifax from February 8, 1980 and finally retiring September 28, 1996. Besides his late parents, Dad was predeceased by his brother, George; sister, Frances MacIntosh and her husband John. Dad is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sheila who he married on August 15, 1959; son, Michael (Liz), Sydney, Australia; daughter, Beverly (Shane) Carson; grandson, Max Manak; granddaughters, Julie and Stephanie Carson; sisters in-law, Coleen Manak, Whitby, Ont.; and Dianne (Bulmer) Haley and husband Bryan of Montague, P.E.I.; several nieces, nephews and his cousin, Robert (Patricia) Ostrey and family of Etobicoke, Ont. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home. A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Woodlawn United Church.
