LAVALLEY, David Edgar - Peacefully at Longfields Manor, Ottawa July 20, 2006 in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of Helen (nee McCracken) of Ottawa. Adored father of Sue Gamble (John), Elgin ON, Jim, West Vancouver, David (Joanne), Qualicum Beach BC and grandfather of Scott Lavalley (Calgary). Survived by many nephews and nieces including David & Jane McCracken, Ottawa and former daughter-in-law Margaret Froats, Renfrew, ON. Born at Ottawa July 5, 1915 to George Edgar Lavalley and Marguerite (Lamont). Educated at Glebe Collegiate and University of Toronto. Member Rideau Canoe Club, RCN Curling Club (founding director, past president), Governor General's Curling Club (past president), The Builders Lodge, A.F. & A.M. Career included Mutual Life, R.C.N.V.R 1941-5, R.C.N. and Dept. of Supply & Services from which he retired in 1975 as Director-General, Personnel. Contributed to development of curling in Canada as president of local, provincial and national curling associations. Ed took great enjoyment from participating in development of RCN C.C., (especially arranging its first liquor licence) and life with friends and family at Lake Opinicon. The family thanks the staff of Longfields Manor for their help and care. Memorial donations to any branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association will be gratefully acknowledged. Memorial service with interment of ashes in the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa will take place at a later date. (Ottawa Citizen 22 Jul 2006)
