MacDONALD, Charles E. - 83, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born April 27, 1918, on Pictou Island, he was a son of the late Robert and Clara (Patterson) MacDonald. A veteran of the Second World War, Charles was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou and had served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy, receiving the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. After the war, he worked at various jobs, retiring from Scott Paper, Abercrombie in 1983. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his sister, Mae Crowe; brothers, Murray, Hibbert. Surviving are nephews, Bob Crowe, Toney River; Wayne, Douglas, Bruce and Robbie MacDonald, Halifax; niece, Jean Martell, Tatamagouche. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou, Mrs. Jessie Johnson officiating.
