Died: 12 May 2021

GUNN, George E. - a kind and gentle man, admired and loved by all who knew him, passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2021, in his 96th year. George was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Pearl, and his daughter Janice, and is survived by his daughter Dr. Robin Gunn (Montreal), his son Dr. Hal Gunn (Vancouver) and his younger sister Kay (California). George grew up on a farm north of Edmonton with four brothers and sisters. When his father and two brothers joined the Canadian Army to fight in World War II, George looked after the farm as a teenager. George joined the Canadian Navy himself in the last year of the War. He became the first in his family to graduate from university, graduating as a Civil Engineer from U of A, a career he exceled at. George was Dawson Creek's Civil Engineer for 18 years, leading the engineering department and, as a volunteer, helped create the first ski-lift on the local ski mountain and a large outdoor pool for the city's inhabitants. In 1973, George and his family moved to Saanich, where George joined Saanich's Engineering Department. He bought a boat and became an avid salmon fisherman and, until his late 80s, golfed and curled. George was a long-time member of the United Church. As a volunteer, he helped design and build, including crafting its stain-glass windows, the Gordon Head United Church, where he and Pearl were active members of the congregation for many years. George led a long, full and healthy life. His kind and gentle manner was loved and appreciated by all. A Memorial Service to celebrate George's life will be held, via Zoom, on June 5th at 3:00 pm. For those who knew George and would like to attend, please email George's son Hal at hal@qubiologics.com for an invitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada.
