Alfred Martin Dobell

DOBELL, Alfred Martin - in his 99th year. Born January 2, 1923 to R. Reid Dobell and Janet Martin. He graduated from the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, England in order to join the war effort in 1941 as an officer on board ships of the Royal Navy seeing service in both the Mediterranean and Atlantic theatres and subsequently with the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1945, Alfred married Elizabeth Pritchard and they had three children, sons Richard, Ian (d. 2004) and daughter Patricia. At war's end he too up a career selling marine paint to various ship builders before catching the investment bug and in 1956 joined the Montreal based firm of MacDougal, MacDougal & MacTier where her worked for many happy years before retiring as full partner. In 1964, he married Anne Marshall (nee Taylor) and became stepfather to Robin, Catherine and Taylor. Alfred and Anne had a son (Andrew) in 1965. Alf loved sailing, summers and Prouts Neck and North Hatley, cross country skiing, his evening walks (no matter the weather) and every dog he ever met. He is survived by his loving wife Anne, Richard Dobell, Patricia Dobell (Rubin Kurtz), Andrew Dobell, Taylor Marshall (Marie Colford), Robin Comolli (Grant Loewen), Catherine Marshall (Graham Batchelor), seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchldren. He instilled in all of us his dedication and concern for all creatures great and small and the environment on which they and we depend. Due to the pandemic, a private memorial will be held at a future date when it is once again safe to gather.
