BRADLEY, Gordon Robert - It is with sadness we announce the death of Gordon Bradley on June 13, 2017. Born in Halifax, January 3, 1930, he was a son of George and Marguerite (Mader) Bradley. A lifelong resident of Halifax, following school years he joined the Reserve Navy in 1950. Gordon was employed for a period of 10 years with Naval Research, then 48 years as a Life Underwriter with Great-West Life Assurance, retiring in 2008. He attained his CLU designation in 1967 and served on many local underwriting Association committees. He was President of the local Life Underwriters Association, and elected Vice-President and Regional Director of the 14,000 member Life Underwriters Association of Canada. In 2000, he was invited to the Board of the Hearing and Speech Foundation, a new Foundation established to further the Provincial non-profit work of the Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centers. Gordon was successful in gaining interest and on-going support of Great-West Life's Head Office, through their Community Relations Program. Active in the Theatre Arts Guild following the Second World War, and in a number of volunteer organizations - a member of the Halifax Board of Trade Council, Community Planning Association, and active in civic politics. He had a deep and abiding interest in all the people around him, and was certainly the person many described as a 'people person'. He is survived by Jean, his wife of 63 years; sons, David and Robert (Lorna), David's daughter, Georgia; Robert's stepson, Terry (Jennifer), all of Halifax; brother-in-law, Val Hermiston, Chilliwack, B.C.; nieces, Sheila, Chilliwack and Glenda, Victoria, B.C.; nephews, Mark (Deb) Walker, Saint John, N.B. and Robert (Cathy) Walker, East Petpeswick; grand nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brother, Frederick, and sisters, Faye and Gwendolyn. There will be no visitation. Memorial service, with reception to follow, will be held on Tuesday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m. in St. James Anglican Church at the Rotary with Rev. Rachael Parker officiating.
