In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DELANEY, Mansel Heber - known as "Jake" - those no one knows why! He served Newfie-Derry run; was short patrol; and he was a ship's rum bos'n. He was in St. John's on the night that the Knights of Columbus Hostel caught fire (12 Dec 1942) killing 99 people, 80 who were military - injuring 109 others. He was actually around the corner having a smoke with a buddy when the alarm went up…a total nightmare that he didn’t like to talk about.
