Norman Kenneth Tucker

Died: 29 Oct 2009, Tavistock, Ontario

 

TUCKER. Norman Kenneth - passed away on October 29th, 2008 at Stratford General Hospital, Norman Tucker of Tavistock in his 84th year. Norm was born in Woodstock on April 20th, 1925 to Ernie and Marion Tucker. Eager to fight for his country, Norm joined the Canadian Navy on his 18th birthday. He served as a Coder on HMS CARAQUET, a minesweeper plying the coast of Europe for enemy submarines. Norm returned home at the conclusion of the was to marry his sweetheart, the former Audrey Redman. The couple raised 2 daughters, Nancy and Patricia. They retired to Tavistock in 1977. Norm was an avid fisherman and spent many happy hours with fishing friends searching out the biggest bass in the cool clear waters of Georgian Bay. Norm was a founding member of the Oxford County Naval Association, and had been a Mason since 1951. Norm was also a member of the Woodstock Memorial Branch #55, Royal Canadian Legion. He will be forever missed by Audrey who was his comfort and solace during his many years of poor health. Remembered too by his daughters: Nancy, and her husband Louis of New Hamburg; their two daughters Meredith (Matthew) Ballaban of Fergus, and Aliesa (Drew) Thompson of Espanola. Remembered too by daughter Patricia and her husband James Ambrose of Elliott Lake. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Minler Roberts of Woodstock. A memorial service for Norm will be held at the Francis Funeral Home in Tavistock at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31. Burial will be in Innerkip Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Capital Fund of Grace United Church would be appreciated and may be made through the Francis Funeral Home by calling 1-519-655-2431. Norman enlisted in the RCNVR on 20 Apr 1943 and served until demobilized on 05 Nov 1945
